Mount Kanchenjunga, also spelled Kangchenjunga, is the third-highest mountain in the world, located in the Himalayas. It stands at an elevation of 8,586 meters (28,169 feet). The mountain is situated in Nepal. 

Kanchenjunga is a sacred peak in the local culture, and the name itself means "The Five Treasures of Snows," which refers to its five peaks. It's an important and challenging summit for mountaineers, known for its technical difficulties and severe weather conditions.

The first ascent of Kanchenjunga was made in 1955 by a British expedition. Due to its significance in local culture and the sensitive environment, the climbing of Kanchenjunga has since been approached with a greater emphasis on conservation and respect for the mountain's spiritual significance.

The area surrounding Mount Kanchenjunga is also known for its rich biodiversity, hosting diverse flora and fauna due to its varied climatic zones and altitude variations. The region is protected as part of a conservation area in Nepal. 

Access to Mount Kanchenjunga is usually via trekking routes that offer stunning views of the peak. However, climbing the mountain itself requires careful planning, technical skill, and often permits from the respective governments due to its protected status.
