Mount Makalu is the fifth-highest mountain in the world, standing at an elevation of 8,485 meters (27,838 feet) above sea level. It is located in the Mahalangur Himalayas within the Himalayas range, straddling the border between Nepal and China (Tibet). The mountain is part of the Himalayas and is situated southeast of Mount Everest, separated by the Barun Valley.

Makalu is known for its impressive pyramid-shaped summit and its challenging climbing routes. The mountain was first successfully summited on May 15, 1955, by a French expedition led by Jean Franco. Climbing Makalu requires advanced mountaineering skills due to its technical difficulties, harsh weather conditions, and high altitude challenges.
